Mission Considerations for N2UW
One of the unique characteristics of using N2UW to conduct airborne research is that a flight scientist (often the project PI) can sit in the right seat of the cockpit and easily interact directly with the pilot and system scientist during flight. A large real-time display in the right seat allows for direct feedback to the flight scientist for making real-time flight decisions to better conduct research missions.
Mission Capabilities:
  • Certification: FAA Part 91, restricted category
  • 28,000 ft (RVSM restriction)
  • Research flight speeds ~85 m s-1
  • Mission duration 4 to 4.5 hours
  • Single pilot operations typical
  • 3-4 scientific crew
  • Certified for operations in known icing conditions

  • College of Engineering
